THE LEAD ARTIST ROLE

The Lead Artist will set the artistic vision and a compelling participatory journey for the Critical Mass project; co-creating and setting choreography to be performed at 5 major events; working closely and effectively with a creative team; leading a team of 15 artists; and ensuring a positive, inclusive, and inspirational experience for approximately 300 young people.

We would like to hear from artists with a clear and distinctive artistic approach, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and hold space for others creativity. You will need a proven track record of creating, developing, and delivering large-scale choreographed performances and events, ideally in outdoor locations and involving young people and/or community participants; a commitment to meaningful inclusive practice; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work effectively under pressure; and a collaborative, flexible, proactive and positive approach. If you feel you fit our brief, we’d love to hear from you!

ABOUT CRITICAL MASS

Critical Mass is an ambitious 14-month long inclusive dance participation project that sits at the heart of the Games’ cultural plans. Generously supported by the Spirit of 2012 (the 2012 Olympic legacy fund), the project will see 300 young people from across the West Midlands, with and without disabilities, come together through a sustained process of dance and skills development workshops, before taking centre stage at a number of high-profile events during the 2022 programme – including the opening show of the arts festival, and the Games’ Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

dx thrives on the passion, creativity, and commitment of all the people we work with and we are committed to celebrating difference in all aspects of our makeup, governance and work output. We strive to be an inclusive organisation. We recognise the positive values of diversity, promote equality, and challenge all forms of discrimination. We actively welcome and encourage people of all backgrounds to apply for this role. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates reflecting a broad range of voices, opinions, and experiences across age, class, disability, gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation.
