DanceXchange, producers of BIDF 2022, is pleased to announce five new Screendance Short commissions for Midlands based creatives specialising in any dance form, with the finished films forming an exciting part of the upcoming festival programme.

We’re seeking proposals from artists of diverse backgrounds with different skills, perspectives and stories that celebrates Birmingham as a global city. Artists will receive bespoke support and mentoring from an experienced Screendance Production Company as well as guidance from the DX Producer Team. The finished films will premiere as part of BIDF in June 2022 and will be available for viewing for the whole period of the festival online and across our outdoor festival sites.

Lucie Mirkova, Head of Artistic Programmes at DanceXchange commented:

These commissions offer artists a wonderful opportunity to develop their ideas and reach new audiences.  The finished films will be part of BIDF 2022 but they may go on to be shown in festivals throughout the world.  For example, last year our Midlands Made commission ‘Anywhere is a Dancefloor’ premiered at BIDF2021 and recently won the Best LGBT Pride Celebration Film award at Colours of Love – International Queer Film Festival.
