World Premiere
Celebrated Bharatanatyam artist Mavin Khoo presents an experiential evening of dance in two halves. Khoo begins by inviting contemporary artist Akshay Sharma to showcase a work of improvisational movement framed by notions of spiritual exploration and the magnetic pull of desire.
This will then lead to Khoo’s own exploration of these ideas through the genre of expressional dance – abhinaya. The recital will be in the format of a chamber concert recital – a baithak – where the dance artist and musicians are seated and unfold nuances of poetry in classical compositions.
Interweaving stories of love, lust, desire and heartbreak, Khoo will create a synthesis between a personal queer narrative and the majestic legacy of Indian classical compositions.
